This paper examines the national and individual stylistic features of Sabin Drăgoi’s opera Năpasta, highlighting its contribution to the development of Romanian opera through its orientation toward critical realism and its departure from romantic-idyllic themes. The significance of this work is reflected both historically and artistically in its original use of folklore as a fundamental source of inspiration. Through the use of folk songs and the establishment of folk drama as a structural model for lyric opera, Năpasta achieves a synthesis between dramatic expression and national identity.
