Collocations - a Real Challenge for the EFL/ESL Learners

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present an important issue of linguistics in English, the collocations. During the past decades, the need for emphasis on collocations has received increasingly attention in the field of EFL teaching. Learning collocations helps EFL/ESL students increase their language competence, enhancingtheir communicative competence. The paper presents the two big classes of collocations in English (grammatical collocations vs lexical collocations) and the specific patterns for each class.
