Abstract

The formation of instrumental contemporary music ensembles in the Romanian cultural area in the second half of the 20th century was driven by the desire to know and promote the values of contemporary music. Referring to the contemporary music ensemble from the Republic of Moldova, Ars poetica, we mention that its appearance led local composers to review their stylistic searches and to orient themselves in a new direction, managing to fit into the patterns of traditional musical forms a wide variety of modern compositional techniques, aimed at developing the imagination and improvisation skills of the performers. Also, being in a continuous search for new sonorities and to avoid melodic-harmonic monotony, already considered less current at this stage of the development of compositional art, contemporary authors aspire to a different musical language than that of the tonal-functional system. Frequently drawing inspiration from folklore sources, contemporary composers integrate in their creations a variety of modern techniques using atonality, aleatorics, sonoristics, open forms, various non-traditional methods of sound emission and interpretation, free rhythm, polyrhythms and alternative measures, sound conglomerates, complex chords, elements of speech, loudness, etc. The symbiosis between tradition and innovation becomes inevitable, in order to assimilate contemporary artistic products, but also for their durability over time, given the fact that tradition, especially folklore (but not only), has always been a sphere that has aroused the interest of creators of all time, innovation driving them forward.
