The ”Răsunetul Ardealului” by Ion Vidu. Analytical and interpretive vision

Abstract

Composer Ion Vidu stands out especially for choral works, anthologies of Romanian choral music. Among these, we mention the work for mixed choir Răsunetul Ardealului, composed by him in 1891. Following the model of Romanian folk songs, inspired by the folkloric genres doina and jocula, the composer Ion Vidu applied the principle of slow-fast alternation in his works. The composer's choral works stand out both for their free and asymmetrical rhythm and for the contrasts of movement and expression. The modalism specific to Romanian folk songs, as well as the harmonization that appeals to the major-minor alternation, are characteristic elements found in the choral works of the composer Ion Vidu.
